Better Transit Marketing

This is my answer to a Canadian Press story yesterday where an unspecified group (what's with these journalists?) discussed some well-known ideas for creating a more sustainable transportation system. To quote from the story:

One of the challenges facing those who aspire to limit the number of vehicles on the road is the consumer, as any hike in gas prices is usually accompanied by calls for government intervention - not for better urban planning and public transit.

It doesn't help that automakers have the ability to push cars as sexy and all-powerful.

"Who could compete with a $13.5-billion marketing budget?" asked JoAnn Woodhall, a transportation planner for Waterloo Region in Ontario. "They place cars in deserts, on top of mountains - impossible places."

Well, here it is: a high-end public transit ad.
